1. What is your role in the RI healthcare community?

Postpartum nurse at Women & Infants Hospital

 

2. What do you love about your job?

I love helping and teaching mothers as they learn to feed and care for their newborns.

 

3. What is the biggest challenge that you face when providing care to your patient population?

We are often faced with high nurse to patient ratios, which leads to less time available to spend with each of our patients, thereby decreasing the quality of care.

 

4. What are some healthcare barriers that your non-English speaking patients face?

Inadequately staffed hospital interpreters and unreliable call center based interpreters can be challenging for non-English speaking patients. They may have pressing questions that need answers and getting an interpreter can often be time consuming and frustrating for patients.

 

5. If you could make one change to the RI healthcare system, what would it be?

Better staffing ratios.
